Breeding is a go!

I am getting ready to pair my snakes up. I got the heat back on. Feeding will resume very soon and then it down to business. I bought a web cam so that (hopefully) I can share the hatching experience with everyone. Stay tuned.

Books about Reptiles Designed for Young Readers

I can personally recommend the following titles for your children (and yourself). Well written and easy to understand. My son (8 yrs) tore right through these. I enjoyed reading them as well.

Week number 2 using Excavator

So far so good using this new Product from Zoo Med. One of the problems with using plain sand is IMPACTION. Which if left untreated will lead to death. Elvis has been eliminating on a regular basis. He is also enjoyng the digging in the loose stuff. Just a note a 10 pound bag doesn't go very far.

Elvis is in the Castle

Here is our Bearded Drgon Born (hatched) on April 30, 2007. He is the runt his brothers and sisters are twice the size of him. We had to remove him from the others a few months ago when (Godzilla) his brother tried to eat him. Elvis survived because I saw it happen (as well as everyone else in our 4H club).

We put him in a 20 gal long cage and are trying out a new product called "Excavator" made by Zoo Med. I like it so far. It seems to replicate it's natural enviorment (Hard Pan) which is hard compressed sand. Poop seems easy to clean up,. Just let it dry up a little first. Some of the clay crumbles up and the superworms we feed him crawl into the loose clay. This allows Elvis to sharpen his hunting skills. He digs for the worms.

Sweet Tara Eggs pipping

Another small clutch hatched this week. This is from my Sweet Tara x Charles clutch. Charles is a Jungle Carpet Python a Sweet Tara is a Diamond/Jungle Carpet Python. I love this picture with it little baby snake tongue sticking out.

Doga and his Baby Bearded Dragons

Here is Doga along with his newly hatched babies. We had a perfect hatch rate. Twenty four out of twenty fours eggs hatched on May 29th. All are eating well and very active.

Caroline's Eggs Have Hatched

I woke up on Memorial Day to one of the coolest things to see. Jaws and Caroline babies have hatched. They are now the proud parents of 13 gorgeous baby jungle carpet Pythons.

Here is an updated picture of "JoJo" my daughters Panther Chameleon. He is getting huge. And Starting to color up real nice. I wasn't going to breed him giving the fact that the egg incubation can be up to a year long but I just might have to. He is Beautiful er.. I mean very handsome. We bought this gem of a reptile from Screameleons at at reptile show in White Plains New York

Our First Bearded Dragon Hatched

We are very excited that our first dragon has hatched. For some it's old hat but for us it is a miracle. I will post more pictures as the rest hatch out.

Lucy turned out to be a BOY

Ah nuts, my pair of Kofiau Green tree python turned out to be both boys. I had ordered 1.1 (male.female) and it turned out to be 2.0 (all males) I had a bad feeling a few months ago when both of them went off feed which is normal for guys to do in the winter. The "Lucy" shed sperm plugs this isn't suppose to happen in girls (Damn Equal Opportunity). The Ricky shed sperm plugs, they were small so I stayed in denial until I went to the vet. ALL MY BAD FEELING HAD BEEN CONFIRMED. I have two boys which would have been great if they were of the human species. I spoke to the guy I bought them from (and several other snakes) before the visit to the vet and he said if they in fact turn out to both be boys then he would make good on the deal right when more came in to the country. He said that as far as he knows none have been brought into the US for 9 or more months. Then I heard that a group of snake hunters went searching for this species on Kofiau Island and the surrounding areas for one month and all they found were 3 snakes in all. Not having a really good feeling here. WISH ME LUCK

Love Is In The Air

Here is one of my Jungle Carpet Breeding Pairs for this year. Caroline is the one on the bottom and Jaws is the one on top. Jaws is the snake that made me go crazy with snakes. I had a couple of ball pythons years ago and I saw Jaws in a local pet shop and 60 snakes latter ...

Note to my wife ... Remember I sold 8 baby snakes so 60 is fairly reasonable. Right?

Green Tree Pyhons

Here is a recent picture of one of my Green Tree Pythons. I love these guys. You never know how they are gong to turn out. This is one of six I bought from Bushmaster Reptiles. They farm raise (Captive Breed) their snakes in Indonesia. They have some great quality snakes for a very reasonable price.

Some collectors don't care for them (Captive Breed) because of the risk of parasites but most will admit they (Bushmaster Reptiles) run a very clean farm.

Here's Ricky my male "Canary". Turns out they don't all stay pure yellow. He is what they call a "Dirty Bird" He has some real nice Green and Blue coloration on him









Here is another picture of Lucy. I call this her "Centerfold" Shot. Next year I hope to breeder her with Ricky. Lucy is a LTC Greent Tree Python. Also Known as a "Canary Island" Green Tree Python. Funny thing about these guys is that they don't come from anywere near they Canry Islands. They com from the Kafiau Islands.

Centrillian Python (Morelia Bredli)

In my opinion this is one of the most under appreciated snakes available today. The colors and contrasts are outstanding. The tempermanet is perfect. These guys are know for being docile. Their size is quite managable. The fellow in this picture is approximatley 6.5 feet and his mate (alice) is about 7.5' feet.

They are native to central Australia. Hence their name (Centrilian) Dessert species like these are wonderful to own because they are very tolerent of temperature fluxuations like those of the dessert.

Jungle Carpet Python Babies

My little pretties here were born (hatched) on June 6 2006. Born on 666 and all have forked tounges, SPOOKY. These are 4 of the 10 that hatched together. The Sire is George and the Dam is Gracie. They all have shed at least twice and have fed over 15 times and are quite healthy. They have been to the vets to be sexed and checked out. I am holding back the other six for now. I really lucked out on this clutch. I got fivr boys and five gals.

Al the California King

There is a story that goes along with Al. My son Colt is a big fan of the TV show "Home Improvement" as is everyone else in my family. In one of the episodes Tim has a confrontation with a "dangerous" California Kingsnake (lampropeltis getula californiae) that come shooting out of his wall. Please note the sarcasm!

Well, from that moment on he wanted a California Kingsnake. So for Christmas I ordered him two (a pair) from a dealer on Kingsnake.com. The vendor shipped them overnight on a Monday via DHL. Tuesday came and went, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday no snakes. So I called the local pet shop and the had This nice gentle California Kingsnake available. On Monday (a week later) I got a call from DHL and said my package was ready for pickup. Please note I live in New England and the average temps in the North East that week were around 20 degrees. SO I head to the depot to "claim the bodies" and I was floored. Not only were the to little critters alive but actively moving around and flickering their tongues. Talk about a Christmas miracle !!!

So I ended up keeping Al for myself and gave two little fellas to my son. He named them Tim and Jill. I eventually picked up a girl for Al. Her name is Ilene.

These are great snakes. I love watching them when they think they are rattlesnakes shaking their tails and trying to be tough.

Samantha and Casper

Here is a picture of my Samantha holding Casper the Albino Ball Python. She has her own ball python named "Shane", I'll get a picture of her snake up soon.
